Celebrating Older Americans Month: “Champion Your Health”
| Celebrate Aging

Older Americans Month arrives every May, offering a chance to recognize the contributions, resilience, and achievements of our older adults. P4A joins this celebration along with our statewide network of Area Agencies on Aging.
This year’s national theme, "Champion Your Health," is a call to action. It encourages older adults to take an active role in their own well-being, advocate for themselves, and make the most of the tools and resources available to them at every stage of life.
For older Pennsylvanians, the call to action is both personal and practical. But what does it mean to champion your health?
It means asking questions, seeking out preventive care, staying socially connected, making informed choices about how you want to live, and advocating for yourself. It means recognizing independence doesn’t happen by chance—it’s something you actively build and protect. It happens with the support of family, community, and the wide network of services that help older Pennsylvanians navigate aging on their own terms.
Where AAAs Come In
Pennsylvania's Area Agencies on Aging know the right support at the right time makes all the difference. Your local Area Agency on Aging connects older adults and their families to the resources that enable independent living to be possible and sustainable.
For some, that support is a home-delivered meal and a daily check-in with another human. For others, it's a ride to a medical appointment that would otherwise be out of reach, or a benefits counseling session that helps them understand their Medicare and insurance options. Beyond individual services, the senior centers offer a place to gather and stay active. For many older adults, their local senior center is a cornerstone of staying connected and engaged in their community.
Health Is More Than a Doctor’s Visit
This Older Americans Month, let’s broaden the conversation about what healthy aging looks like. It is a senior center filled with people who show up for each other. It is an older adult who learned, through a benefits counseling appointment, that there was help available they didn’t know to ask for.
Being healthy means more than just feeling well physically. It's about your emotional well-being, your social connections, and your financial security.
A Local and Statewide Commitment
Across Pennsylvania, Area Agencies on Aging are grounded in a shared belief: every person deserves the opportunity to age safely, independently, and with dignity, regardless of where they live or their circumstances. That commitment is what drives our work every day.
Championing your health is easier when you don't have to do it alone. For more information about aging services, contact your local Area Agency on Aging. Find Your AAA | Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging
