Celebrating Senior Independence Month: Empowering Pennsylvania's Older Adults

February marks National Senior Independence Month, a time to honor and support the independence of older adults across Pennsylvania. The AAAs in PA are committed to ensuring older Pennsylvanians can maintain their autonomy and age comfortably in their own homes.

The Importance of Older Adult Independence

Independence is crucial for the well-being and dignity of older adults. It allows them to maintain control over their daily lives, preserve their sense of purpose and self-worth, and continue contributing to their communities.

Pennsylvania's AAAs encourage older adults to age at home by providing many of the resources they need to do so comfortably.

How We Can Support YOU

AAAs offer a wide range of services designed to help older Pennsylvanians remain in their homes and communities, including:

  • Home-delivered meals
  • Transportation assistance
  • Health and wellness programs
  • Caregiver support
  • Legal services
  • In-home care

AAAs also encourage older Pennsylvanians to stay active and engaged in their communities. They offer field trips, exercise classes, group meals, holiday parties, art classes, and various other activities.

In today's digital age, technological literacy is crucial for maintaining independence. AAAs support initiatives that teach older adults how to use smartphones, tablets, and computers, helping them stay connected with loved ones and access important information online.

Aging Across the Commonwealth

Pennsylvania has a network of 52 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) across our 67 counties that works tirelessly to provide the resources and support needed to make independent living a reality for older Pennsylvanians.

AAAs are focused on programs and outreach designed to improve the physical, social, and emotional well-being of older adults and their caregivers with dignity, diversity, respect, and choice.
